![]() (Bellwood, Il.) Once again while focusing on one story, another more compelling story came up. It has a name and he is Jermaine Brown, the 24 year old brother of former Chicago Bull player Randy Brown. We ran across the 6'5" 195lb. power forward recently at a Bellwood Park District League game at Memorial Park, around 25th. avenue and Washington street in the near-west suburb.
"Yea I've had to deal with it since high school", the intense on-the-court but gentlemanly off-the-court player said while referring to all the 'your Randy Brown's brother' mentions he receives daily. Although he says he has gotten use to it, when reviewing his passionate and concentrated effort on the court it is hoped that those mentions will soon go away.
Brown's presence is noticeable immediately and he takes charge as a leader on court. His aggressive nature on the hardwood also parallels his same demeanor off of it as he seeks employment in the N.B.A. Brown has tried out for numerous teams, including the Bulls, Lakers, Timberwolves, and 76'rs. "They say they like you and to keep on doing certain things", Brown said of these mostly private workouts. "But I'll keep on working extra hard and keep on going back to the drawing board and continue to do it until I get there I guess".
Brown's athleticism keeps his game strong. He runs the floor naturally and effortlessly and displays very strong ball handling skills. His ability to create offensive one-on-one situations is apparent and it leads to some destructive dunks on the tail end of some of those match-ups.
Brown has found representation with Chicago-based agent Mark Bartlestein, one of the better and more enthusiastic agents in the business. Jermaine will keep busy this summer with league play and hopefully receive a coveted invitation to the Pro-Am at the Illinois Institute of Technology, always a top draw. His main hope however is a invitation to the summer camp of the Seattle Supersonics and after that, hopefully the real League!
